Golden Legend of Young Saints

This book truly is golden.

I received it a few weeks ago, and barely managed to finish reading it before it was snatched away by my oldest to be read in his cozy bed.

He loved it.

Full of exciting stories, done in a narrative style, it appeals to all who love adventure. At the same time, this book instills a love of Truth and a desire to be brave in the face of adversity.

The beautiful stories of St. Joan of Arc, St. Aloysius, St. Brendan, and most moving for me, a young slave girl in France, St. Blandina, who died after days of being tortured... shining with pure bravery and love that put her tormentors to shame. All are amazing, soul-inspiring, and so very real.

Little Dear has not ventured forth to read this one yet. At the age of 8, I think she may be a bit horrified, and may have to wait a few years. Some of the descriptions have the potential to evoke images that may scare more than inspire. As always, you know your own children best!

For my boys... it was right up their alley. And it's a road I'd be ecstatic to see them pursue.
